Dalessio Byrnes Sparta 3-0 as Rockers finish 7-3 in Flight 1

Soccer Rockers finished their first season in flight 1 with a respectable 7-3 campaign.

At home this afternoon the Rockers won 3-0 against a fired up Sparta team as they were looking to avoid relegation.

Rockers keeper Gia Dalessio was the star of the show today closing the campaign with 9 goals allowed in 10 games bringing her goals against average under 1 for the season.
Dalessio denied 3 PENALTY KICKS and had ten other saves some of the highlight variety as the Sparta strikers were left shaking their heads all game.

After a scoreless first half, tempers already bubbling over came to a boil when the Sparta coaches questioned the eligibility of Mad Dog Dalessio and 3 other Rockers players(Boppy, JB and Heinold). After a discussion with the referee and linesmen the referee deemed the players paperwork and cards in good standing and the game continued.

This was the motivation the Rockers offense needed as the Rockers got on the board early in the second half. Sweeper/Stopper and first team MCYSA defender Ryan O’Leary started an attack through the middle to Mia Zirpoli. Zirpoli raced into the box and played a ball to forward mate Ava Dico who then chipped the oncoming goalie on to a striding Jess Byrne who buried the Rockers first goal.

Soon after the Rockers constant pressure earned them a corner kick and some quick thinking gave them their second goal. Sadie O played a quick corner to Jess Byrne as the Sparta D was caught napping and Byrne volleyed a shot of a Sparta defender and into the back of the net.

Rockers continued to pressure and were rewarded with a third goal as team captain Ashley Peterson threaded a through ball to Ava Dico who picked out the left corner and completed the scoring for the Rockers.

Congratulations to the Rockers girls—- Dalessio, O’Leary, Medich, Coto, Heinold, Sadie O, Boppy, Dico, Peterson, Zirpoli, Dico, JB and GK.
Rockers coaches are still looking forward to the getting girls together for their first practice of the season!!!!!

Special thanks to coaches Jess “cold weather” O’Leary and Michelle Medich currently on a recruiting trip in Cape Town, South Africa.
See you in the Spring……
