David beats Goliath
West Caldwell – June 10 2018: The Florham Park Landsharks bite back with their biggest upset ever against the CWC Cougars! After the Cougars posted a 4-0 win against the Landsharks at home on the large 9×9 field under the lights on Thursday night, the Cougars were 6-0 with 27 Goals and only one goal let up. The Landsharks traveled to the Cougars home field for the second match of the series. Before the game started the coaches were optimistic that the Landsharks could put up a fight against this Goliath.
Light rain was falling at kickoff as the Landsharks came out strong and scored a quick goal (Ally Massarano). The landsharks conintued to play strong and went into the half tied at 1-1. Coach Kevin (our trainer) who came to the game to see his team play gave a very good half time talk to the team with some great feedback on positioning and things the Landsharks needed to improve on. The Landsharks came out biting and scored the next two goals (Caitlyn Fenyk (2)) to take a 3-1 lead. Could the LandSharks hang on and beat this Goliath?? Short answer – YES! The land sharks held on and gave the Cougars their first loss of the season with a 3-2 win. The Landsharks raise their record to 5-3 with two games remaining in the spring season.
Astrid Yougren and Parv Chiarella played a strong games in the forward position.
The Midfield was Played tough by Caitlyn Fenyk, Olivia Franco, Tori Henning and Ally Massarano.
Defensively, Ally Burmeister, Camran Sward, and Avi “Speedster” Tenore did their jobs and held the Cougars.
In Goal Patsy Shallis was a beast with numerous saves and steady goal play.
Our next two games are against our rival Ringwood and Montville this Saturday and Sunday. Two wins would guarantee a top 2 finish in the flight.
