TWENTY DAYS
“Dad what uniform are we wearing today?” Man is that music to my ears!!! In the Kelly house it’s game day and the Soccer Rockers/Rock are ready for battle.
An extra jump in my step as I get out of bed. Shower, brush my teeth and then right to the closet. Have to get out my black Adidas shorts, blue FP coaches shirt, USA hat and black Adidas Sambas.
Rush down stairs to check the schedule although I have already memorized it front and back. Ok start checklist—roster forms, dry erase board, ref fees, ball bag. Everything is in place.
I hear the stairs crackle. After nine steps the person is now visible. A blonde haired gladiator dressed in all blue. Yellow Adidas cleats waiting in the mud room. Time to prepare the water jug.
This has been our routine for the past fours years. Ten times in the Fall. Repeat. Ten times times in the Spring.
This Spring marked the final season for the Soccer Rockers/Rock. Some of the girls will continue in Middle School but with a new team.
Thank you to Gracie, Jess, Isabelle, Ryan, Manuela and Chelsey my original six second graders who brought this team into existence! Isabelle scoring our final goal Sunday to propel us to a 2-1 victory a fitting end. Thanks for the memories!!!!
