Diamonds Battle to a Tie
The Diamonds went on the road Sunday for an early game against a hungry Randolph team. Playing on a wet and sloppy field, and coming off a week-long layoff, the girls started slow and found themselves in an early 2-0 hole. But they battled back and dominated the remaining 50 mins of the match and fought to earn a 3-3 tie.
Lead by goalie Jade Hueston, who pitched a 2nd half shutout, the defensive backline of Sofie Cicerone, Shannon Hunt, Abby Holmes and Laila Guiliana tightened up quickly and shut down their attacking offense. The Diamonds scoring was led by the usual suspects of Gracie Kelly and Saige Price, who each netted a goal. Kelly’s goal was set up nicely on an indirect kick from Manuela Restrepo.
The midfield group, who were all over the field the entire game constantly putting pressure on the Randolph team on both ends, was led by Andrea DiSessa, Cory Hueston, Hannah Hueng and Gianna Green.
Green also found the net for the team’s first score of the game. Restrepo anchored the center of this group throughout the match.
The Diamonds finish up the first half of the season at an extremely respectable 2-1-2 and are set up for big things in the 2nd half!
