Five Goal Win For Firestorm

Florham Park, NJ – On Sunday, The Florham Park Firestorm win their home opener 5 -1 to increase their record to 2 – 0 in the 2017 spring soccer campaign.

Firestorm were the 3rd of all 3 U10 Florham Park teams to win their game on the Small Sided Elm Street Field following victories from their sister club Flash and their brother club Lightning.

Sunday’s opponents, Vernon Lightning, have notched 16 goals in their first 2 games this season while conceding only 4 goals against in their strong start.

However the offensive trio of Chase Sugg, Matty O’Leary and Bryce Cicchino set the pace of the game by keeping the play on the good side of the field. Their tireless efforts for chasing the ball down and maintaining possession allowed for more positive play in the game.

“The boys fought hard for every possession and displayed a never give up attitude on a loose ball” Coach Santillan mentioned

It was 15 minutes into the match when substitute Jack Galante opened his account for the team netting his fist goal for the season. And he didn’t stop there, he completed his brace a few minutes later ending the half at 2 nil.

Coach Garing commented after the game, “He (Galante) is well deserving.  A very hardworking player who is a true goal poacher.”

The second half wasn’t much different from the first.  Firestorm picked up where they left off controlling the game with their passing and hardworking midfield. Second half goals by O’Leary, Cicchino and co-skipper Colin Heinold solidified the victory for the home team.

The defensive efforts lead by co-skipper Luke Ferrara were the key to todays victory.  Denying the powerful offense of Vernon was a seemingly monumental task going into the contest, however Ferrara stepped up for the challenge.

“He is a great assignment player” Coach Garing added after the game.  “His ability to answer the questions for us today proved to be crucial in the result”

The Firestorm are on the road against Hanover Jaguars for their next fixture.
