Ferrara Dampens Summit Celtic
Summit NJ – The phone calls, emails and text messages we circling Coach Garing’s cell phone Saturday morning as the rain didn’t let up from early morning to late evening. The Firestorm were scheduled to be away on Summit’s Glenside Turf Field that afternoon. Most sports and league games were cancelled, but the clash between 1st place Firestorm and last place Summit was destined to be played.
Canopies, Tarps, Umbrellas would line up on the sideline and benches as the game kicked off under pouring conditions. Summit Celtic came ready to play lead by a Scottish coach and 3 new players to help the team at the bottom find their game.
Summit put the pressure on cold Firestorm players who seemed to be figuring out the slick surface and the weather conditions. Celtic were able to get on the score sheet taking the lead 1 nil into the half.
Some tactical changes saw a resurgence in the Firestorm second half play with Luke Ferrara moving up the pitch to tie the game at 1 each. The goal came within a minute of starting the second half and seemed to have given a nudge to the away side.
Ferrara was not done for the day. He found the back of the net again giving the lead to the boys of Florham Park taking over the game.
Another defensive player, Jack Garing got opened up his account for the spring making the game 3 – 1 and sending the boys home wet with a win.
