Rockers win opener in controversial fashion
As the final whistle sounded in Hackettstown the FP Soccer Rockers high fived and started to celebrate their first win of the season 5-3. As the girls put their slides on and packed up their bags the
Rockers coach was summoned to the referee area and confusion ensued.
The Hackettstown coaches went through the Rockers roster player by player and thought something was amiss.
Jess Byrne, who was part of Team Italy’s 1st grade Florham Park rec team recently voted best rec team in FP history, was omitted from the roster along with the Rockers other secondary carded players. Byrne who torched Hackettstown with a brilliant hat trick was cleared by the referee and FP Soccer Rockers moved to 1-0.
Sadie O’Donnell and Mia Zirpoli also scored around Byrnes natural hat trick.
The defense was anchored by Ryan Oleary, Mia Heinold, Sara Coro and Isabelle Medich.
The attack was led by Ashley Peterson, Gracie Kelly, and newcomer Boppy.
Rocker veteran goalie Gia Dalessio shut the door in the closing minutes despite racking up over 500 miles round trip on the day.
Tempers may be running high when Hackettstown visits the Park later in the season.
Rockers visit undefeated Springfield this coming Sunday.
